The rupee depreciated 10 paise to 94.66 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, as surging Brent crude prices near USD 97/bbl and Middle Eastern geopolitical friction dampened investor confidence.
Forex traders noted that ongoing RBI dollar sales and strong foreign-currency inflows under special schemes helped keep the rupee range-bound despite heavy external pressures.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 94.49 against the US dollar, then touched 94.66, registering a fall of 10 paise from its previous close.
On Monday, the rupee fell 13 paise to close at 94.56 against the American currency.
"The RBI's intervention has been particularly important in preventing higher oil prices from translating into a weaker rupee," Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, said.

The CBI has registered an FIR against media baron Subhash Chandra for allegedly inflating his net worth to avail loans from Life Insurance Corporation Housing Finance Ltd (LICHFL), which became default, causing over Rs 1,322 crore loss to the public sector lender, officials said Saturday.
The LICHFL has alleged in its complaint, which is now part of the FIR, that Chandra submitted net worth certificates that were used to secure approval and disbursal of two loans totalling Rs 980 crore.
There as no immediate reaction from the accused named in the FIR.
The complaint concerns a Rs 500 crore facility extended to Vasant Sagar Properties Pvt Ltd, with Pan India Infra Projects Pvt Ltd as co-borrower, and a Rs 480 crore facility extended to Digital Subscriber Management and Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd, with Spirit Infra Power and Multi Ventures Pvt Ltd as co-borrower, the FIR alleged.

Gaganyaan astronaut and IAF pilot Prasanth Balakrishnan Nair on Saturday said AI sovereignty is crucial for ensuring national cybersecurity, as the growing use of artificial intelligence is making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between real and fake content.
Speaking at the Kerala Cyber Suraksha Summit 2026, organised by Kerala Startup Mission and F9 Infotech, Nair said cybersecurity would have limited value unless the country developed ownership and control over AI technologies.
"It is very important that we have AI sovereignty, and any amount of cybersecurity will be of no avail unless we own AI," he said.
Nair said future wars and industries would involve a "whole-of-nation approach", making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between physical and digital boundaries.
"In the whole-of-nation approach, it's very difficult to say where the physical boundaries end and where the digital boundaries start. And it's going to affect all of us," he said.
